Formed on April 26, 1860, The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada is the nation’s oldest continuously-serving Infantry Regiment.
Our History
As proud citizen-soldiers, members of the Regiment have served in every conflict where Canadians have participated. The 47 battle honours earned by the Queen’s Own Rifles include the Battle of Normandy on June 6, 1944, where the Regiment achieved distinction by successfully capturing its objective.
Our Mission
In present day, The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada is an Army Reserve Regiment located in downtown Toronto. The Regiment has the privilege of being entrusted with light infantry capability, including parachute, complex terrain, and reconnaissance capabilities. In addition to providing soldiers for missions overseas, the unit is well-equipped to respond to natural disasters on domestic soil. The Regimental Museum and Archives are located in Casa Loma, which was built by the former Commanding Officer Sir Henry Pellatt.
Our Band and Bugles
Director of Music: Captain Megan Hodge, CD
The Band and Bugles of The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada are an integral part of the Regiment, comprised almost entirely of serving members. Historically, the horns (bugles) have the place of honour in a Rifle Regiment. This arises from the necessity that orders were given to the widely dispersed scouts and skirmishers by this medium. Throughout the long history of the Regiment, the Band and Bugles have played well and fought well. Indeed, the Battle Honours of the Regiment are emblazoned on the drums.
